Samoana Board Game

The Ministry of Education implies a massive drop in regular school attendees from the past year to now. The results from the database suggest different factors contributing to the decline in student attendance across school sectors, especially in the Primary and Intermediate school sectors in New Zealand. A factor that I have decided to evaluate and my challenge scope for my capstone is children's engagement in classroom settings and ways in which indigenous narrative can be incorporated through an engaging kit.

A Samoan-narrated board game created to provide a fun and interactive experience for children aged 8 to 12. The game gives the children tasks to complete in a group setting across three different phases. Each phase incorporates three activities based on indigenous Samoan storytelling through the traditional Samoan "Sasa", traditional Tattoo patterns, and symbols. The result is an interactive and fun cycle where children express themselves and build collaboration and teamwork. The board game will also share insights into indigenous Samoan knowledge throughout the play. The kit consists of a board game, a die, a manual sheet for the participants to refer to - and a rule sheet for the facilitator role.
