"If you do not intentionally include, you unintentionally exclude."
How might we develop an educational kit that effectively combines DEI and STEM learning in a fun, engaging way? Within the wide range of existing educational kits, there needs to be more teaching around cultural exchange.
Aotearoa is one of many diverse countries in the world. There needs to be a systematic approach to teaching diversity and cultural inclusion within the classroom of tamariki.
'My Whare' explores the idea of engaging an audience of 8 to 12-year-olds in culturally inclusive workshops in the classroom. The project considers the model 'te whare tapa whā', the four dimensions of Māori well-being: taha tinana (physical health), taha wairua (spiritual health), taha whānau (family health), taha hinengaro (mental health).
Through this workshop, tamariki will be able to learn about their peers' diverse cultures and discover their indigenous backgrounds.
