Empowering and Representing our local Pacific Creatives and Communities in Tāmaki Makaurau through Clothing

The Pacific Arts Collective is a clothing brand and platform created to empower and represent local Pacific creatives and communities through clothing. We engaged local Pacific creatives to expand, collaborate and share their designs, cultures and stories through fashion and apparel. In doing this, we created a community collection of t-shirts designed by our local Pacific creatives.

The target customers are the Pacific community and university students in Tāmaki Makaurau. We hope to expand into the rest of Aotearoa. Through conversations with university students, I found that we are the most affected in terms of cultural loss, negative cultural perception, intergenerational trauma, and identity crisis (Ngari, 2022). This brand seeks to mend connections between students and their cultures by providing them with a sense of identity and pride when they see themselves and their cultures reflected in the fashion industry.

Pacific Arts Collective is a brand for those who want to support and empower local Pacific creatives. It is a platform for sharing our stories. Pacific Arts Collective is for those who wish to change how Pacific communities are represented in fashion and clothing.
