Supporting students mitigate anxiety associated with job interviews using AR and AI
Problem
Recent hiring freezes in Aotearoa have made it challenging for students to secure job opportunities. With limited resources, many find it difficult to prepare for interviews, which increases job interview anxiety and imposter syndrome. This project seeks to address the challenges students face during interviews by leveraging emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR). The aim is to reduce anxiety and build professional confidence for students during interviews, particularly in Aotearoa’s competitive job market.
What is IntervAR?
IntervAR is an AR and AI-led application that helps students with interview preparation to mitigate anxiety. The features include an AR screen where a floating orb will ask you questions, which then gives you AI-driven feedback on speech analysis. The speech analysis includes pace, filler words, tone, and eye contact. The speech analysis will use natural language processing, speech and tone analysis, and eye tracking.
IntervAR will also include guided breathing techniques to calm anxiety, which reminds you to breathe and stay calm during an interview. On a separate page, there will be a library of specific interview questions based on industry covering both behavioural and technical scenarios.
Aim
The aim of this project is to explore how AR and AI can help students manage interview anxiety and imposter syndrome. By offering an immersive, personalised solution, the goal is to create a platform that empowers students to build confidence and perform well during their job interviews. The broader goal is to create a tool that not only helps students secure job opportunities but also offers a long-term approach to managing interview anxiety.
