How might we share urban space with seagulls in a mutually beneficial way?

The seagull motel is an innovative seagull interaction project that hopes to provide a friendly and sustainable environment for urban seagulls, thereby addressing the city's conflict between people and seagulls. The project will design and build a series of movable seagull motels in on-street parking spaces along the seafront to attract and increase interaction between people and seagulls.

The design of the Seagull Motel will encompass a series of mobile 'hotels' that will be cleverly integrated into the cityscape to maximise the attraction of seagulls. The choice of location is also essential to ensure that the gulls are willing to come and minimise their disturbance to human settlements. This will create a balance in the city where seagulls and city dwellers can share the city's resources.

The Seagull Motels are designed not only to attract seagulls but also with human involvement in mind. The 'motels' will provide information boards and interactive elements to raise awareness of the seagulls and their conservation amongst citizens and visitors. This will encourage more people to interact with these beautiful birds and contribute to their preservation.

To enhance people's knowledge and understanding of seagulls and to strengthen people's education about seagulls, I will place posters on the parklets to publicise the event. I will also design a software and webpage to promote the event, connecting people with the community and allowing them to communicate with each other.

Seagull Motel App page
Seagull Motel App page

Seagull Motel's App will serve as an information center, providing users with detailed information about seagulls. Users will be able to learn about the gulls' ecological habits, food requirements, conservation challenges, and their role in the city. In addition, the App can provide multimedia resources such as images, videos, and articles to bring the information to life. This will help raise users' awareness and deepen their understanding of seagulls.

My App will have an interactive map showing seagull hotels and related locations. Users can quickly find the nearest hotel to observe and interact with the seagulls. Location services will also provide navigation and route planning so users can promptly reach these locations.

The App is a social platform encouraging users to share their seagull observations and experiences. Users can upload photos, post comments, interact with others, and share their stories. This social interaction helps build a positive community and encourages more people to join in the protection of seagulls.

Seagull Motel Web page

In the case of the Seagull Motel project, web design can significantly enhance the project's impact and increase user engagement and understanding.

The project's webpage can serve as an information center, providing visitors with a wealth of content about seagulls, including ecological habits, conservation challenges, and the project's mission and goals. This helps to increase users' understanding of seagulls, emphasises the project's significance, and conveys the need to protect seagulls. Users can browse related articles, 'How might we share urban space with seagulls in a mutually beneficial way?', watch videos, view pictures, and explore in-depth information through the webpage.
