The Ombu Rain Shelter is a site-specific design for Auckland’s Albert Park. Amidst increasingly severe weather as a result of climate change, there is a distinct need to alter the way our communities perceive rainfall. Turning it into a positive event will aid us in adapting to changing times. The Ombu Rain Shelter is a space of calm, a place where rain is a positive occurrence and people can mind solitude in the space around them. Alongside the space, there is an online companion in the form of a website that adds further value to the space and highlights the role that parks have to play in combating climate change and its impacts.
