With the example of class, How might we mitigate unconscious bias and help companies make better career development decisions for their workplaces?

This statement uses social class as a guiding point for researching a broader problem. Within my peers, this research topic was one of the most challenging to solve within 12 weeks. Using IDEO's methodology, I created an online certification course that challenges how users perceive topics like diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Upon completion, users receive a certification that can be embedded into their CV, Cover Letters, and LinkedIn profiles. U-Bias aims to create an appraised future industry standard course that would become a requirement when applying for jobs in future workplaces.

In U-Bias, we want to show everyone that there are more reasons to implement diversity initiatives than "the risk of being canceled". This punishment mentality causes businesses to implement half-hearted measures where they do enough to get public approval. In most cases, people in management roles do not receive "diversity training" unless there is an incentive to do so.

U Bias is split into three courses:

U-Bias Foundational Course

This course will introduce DEI by reflecting on your own biases and teaching skills related to creating an equitable workplace, acknowledging others, their backgrounds, and common diversity issues that can arise in workplaces.

U-Bias Diversity Modules

These nine courses, inspired by the "Diversity Awareness Cards" created by Diversity Works, dig deeper into topics we should communicate openly and bring awareness to. The "Class" module is currently available in the Figma prototype!

U-Bias Management

This course requires a membership for Diversity Works. Here, you will learn the theories taught in Diversity Works' workshops. This course will also show how to make effective decisions while acknowledging unconscious biases. To complete this certification, you must complete this course and attend ONE Diversity Works workshop.
