Heart Garden is an AR game designed to help teenagers manage their emotions, particularly alleviating symptoms of depression, through interactive gameplay and emotional metaphors. In this game, players care for virtual plants, and by nurturing these plants, they learn to handle their own emotions. Addressing the key question of how an AR game might support teenagers with daily emotional challenges, Heart Garden offers a unique approach to reflection and emotional growth. The gameplay links plant health to the player’s emotional state, symbolizing challenges like anxiety and low mood. When the plant’s leaves curl, for example, the player “adds sunlight” to restore it, mirroring how positive support helps regain energy in real life. The AR feature allows players to interact with the plant within their own environment, deepening their emotional connection and engagement. As the plant matures, it provides emotional feedback and support, equipping players with practical skills for real-life emotional balance.
