Women and non-binary are a minority in the gym environment, they are often victims of harassment, bias, and many gender inequities. This project aims to explore the reality of gender disparities within a male-dominated gym environment. Addressing the challenges that women and non-binary face by utilizing a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity lens (DEI) to improve gender equity.
With the desired intent to educate businesses and build a sense of belonging and community, I aim to establish a brave space for all women and non-binary in commercial gyms. The Human-Centered Design framework was employed to pilot the creation of a program that was onboarded by commercial gyms in hopes of addressing gender inequities. By educating faculty, especially male staff, on how to train women and non-binary individuals and offering women and non-binary-only classes within the gym, this initiative aimed to foster community and learning opportunities.
